Work situation 101

A funny conversation between me, dentist and our patient last Friday:

Dentist: I'm sorry to say this but you'll be needing a root canal on your upper left molar.
Patient: (freaking out) Oh my god! I knew it, why did i do this to myself?! Can you tell me how much because for sure, root canal is not covered in my insurance.
Dentist: It'll be around $700 to $800, it depends.
Patient: Oh ok, i have lotsssa money you know. I have sugar daddies.. =)
Me: (smiling) Is that the "babe" that you talked to on your cellphone after i took your X-ray?
Patient: Yah, he's one of them.. They like it when i call them "names" you know?

LOL!

Oh, before that, the dentist asked me to take X-ray on the patient's tooth first.

Me: Hi, my name is Star. I'm a dental assistant and i will be taking your X-ray today. How are you?
Patient: I'm good.. I have a question, my sister told me that the leak coming from my tooth is poisonous. I don't want to swallow it. Is that true?
Me: I don't think so. For sure, there's a bacteria in there but it won't kill you.
Patient: Ok!
Me: Before i start taking the X-ray, it's just a standard protocol for us to ask our patients if there's a chance that you might be pregnant?
Patient: Are you kidding me? I don't even get any sex anymore!
Me: (smiling) Ok.

Too much information.

Here are some answers everytime i ask "Is there a chance that you might be pregnant?":
  • "Ofcourse not, i'm saving myself for my future husband." --- Virgin much?
  • "For sure, no. Actually, i'm not sure but whatever!" --- Bahala na much?
  • "That's the most flattering question i've ever heard, but no!" --- Over-age much?
  • *frown* "No!" --- guilty much?
  • "Yes!" ---- this is the time where you need to double apron the patient to be safe.
  • "Uhm, what's the date today? Wait.. no. I am not pregnant." --- Are you sure much?
I can't wait that one of these days, i would hear an answer from an underage patient that would say "Please don't tell my mom?!". Lol!

For the record, taking X-ray on pregnant woman is not super bad, we just don't want the embryo in their tummy to be exposed on too much radiation. As low as reasonably achievable is our main goal.
